MASTERING MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Mastering Mental Health and substance abuse

MANIFESTING THROUGH WORDS AND THOUGHTS

The law of attraction (LOA) is the belief that the universe creates and provides for you that which your thoughts are focused on. Your mind is all is a key component when mastering mental health and substance abuse. In essence, “like attracts like” or positive thoughts result in positive outcomes. Manifestation has been around for a while and is known to be a useful practice in achieving goals and living a life you dream of. Now you may be wondering, how does this apply to addiction recovery? Here’s how.

Most people walk through life on auto-pilot, without intention, focus, or plan. LOA provides focus of your thoughts, and forces us to look at how we feel on the inside about ourselves, our lives, and our surroundings. Because we’re often on auto-pilot, we engage in the same habits, perform the same routines that feel good. Ultimately, we hold on to addictive habits because we think or hope it will make us feel better or help us escape from the reality of our lives. But life doesn’t have to be lived this way. Conscious thoughts can connect us back to ourselves, and bring us into intentional living.

What we’ve always found true is that what you focus attention on grows. The journey of recovery is mostly mental. During recovery, if the focus is “I’m an addict”, or “I’ll never get better” your behavior will reflect that. Family and friends will treat you as such and may hold you to that standard. Try affirming your journey instead. Perhaps say “I am healing”, “I am recovering”, “I am growing”, “I am not my past” and see how your thoughts evolve and improves your quality of life. Maybe a thought such as “I am growing” will lead you to surround yourself with people and activities that reinforce this.

A famous quote Lao Tzu reads “Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”
